BULLHEAD CITY — Adam King will be leading the charge for the River Valley High School's football program as the head coach for the incoming school year.

“It's a great opportunity and challenge that I'm excited for. I have been fortunate enough to have been around some great coaches and players that did things the right way," King said. "Fortunately for me, the football program at River Valley has a rich tradition of playing football with a certain level of toughness; We hope to create an environment there that will allow that mindset to flourish.”

King has a total of 14 years of varsity football coaching experience in both Arizona and Michigan.

"I started coaching at my high school in Michigan, part of a really good staff there. The guys that I played for (gave me) a really good football education," King said. "Then I came out here and started coaching for Mohave (High School)."

He served as the offensive coordinator for four years and defensive coordinator for one season at Mohave HS.

"With his extensive experience, King will be a great addition to the River Valley High School’s Football Program," said Michael Carter, Colorado River Union High School District director of community engagement.

In addition to coaching, King has been a teacher at Mohave High School for eight years and will be moving to River Valley HS starting in the next school year.

"I was excited for River Valley when King requested a transfer to be their head football coach for (the) next school year," said CRUHSD Superintendent Tim Richard. "King's strength is in building positive and motivational relationships with students. King is an educator with high expectations for his students and that won't change on the field. I know he wants to create a winning program and I am confident that he has the work ethic and the support he needs to make that happen."

King said he isn't worried about being a new face on campus for his players and feels good about the upcoming season.

"I've had the opportunity to meet some of the kids," King said. "... What I know about the kids down there is that they're tough and really young, so we'll see what equates to. It's an exciting process right now."

King said is he has started weightlifting for teammates who aren't in a spring sport (and, of course, being supportive of those who are going out for the school's baseball, golf and track teams).

Spring practice will begin in April and will continue working with his team in summer. Officially, the season will begin at the end of July.

He is preceded in the position by Kevin Hall, who served as head coach in the 2022-2023 season and Jonathan Clark, who coached for four years and took the team to the state quarterfinals in 2021.

"Living up to expectations of previous regimes, yeah, it can be nerve wrecking," King said. "But that's not whe... Click here to read full article
