The River Valley High School baseball team picked up their eighth win of the season to move back to .500 with their victory over The Odyssey Institute For Advanced and International Studies on Friday.

In the first game, the Minotaur took a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first before the Dust Devils scored two on an error in the bottom half. Odyssey Institute added another run in the second, but River Valley tied it up shortly after on an RBI from Hunter Koehler and Gavin Hogencamp.

In the third, Thomas Farnham knocked in the fifth run with a sacrifice fly, and Mikey Gonzalez then stretched the lead to three with a two-run single. Mickey Smith later tripled home a run and also had an RBI single in the team's 9-6 win. Dreyton Gleason, Hogencamp, and Koehler all pitched and struck out six, with Koehler picking up the win.

"They came out and played really good baseball with strong pitching," head coach Billy Fregozo said. "Hitting wise, they focussed and stayed back. We also were moving real well on the bases and reading the pitchers well.

In the second game, Goveia scored with an RBI double in the first, and Fonteno added a run-scoring hit in the second. River Valley put up crooked numbers in both the third and the fifth inning to go ahead 11-3 heading into the sixth.

The Minotaur plated six runs to cut the deficit to three before Evan Orr stole home to increase the lead to four. Goveia and Farnham both had two RBI, while Orr, Smith, Fonteno, and Gonzalez also knocked in runs in the game. Smith made the start and did not allow a run In three innings. Wyatt Maxwell went on to pick up the win, recording the final five outs.

"We were doing really well but had one tough inning," Fregozo added. "We had too many errors and struggled on the hill, but settled down, stayed focused, and won two games.

Next, River Valley will host Kingman High School on Monday at 5 p.m. These teams played last year, with the Dust Devils winning 9-0.
