MOHAVE VALLEY — River Valley High School's Carissa Campos is officially signed to continue her softball career at St. Elizabeth University in New Jersey.

She becomes the second player from this year's team to sign, joining Karina Pulu, who will attend The University of Buffalo.

"Being committed is such a relief," Campos said. "I no longer need to stress where I am going or what school will fit me best."

Carissa, whose brother, Fernando Campos Jr., plays on the varsity baseball team, started her softball career when she was 5 playing rec ball. She continued with the city until she was in middle school and then joined a team called Boom, where she played until she was 15. Carissa then joined the Bombers and played under her varsity coach Tim Williams.

"I am very grateful for the coaches accepting me to be a part of the Bomber family because, without them, I would not have been able to continue my softball career in college," Campos said.

Campos played three years on the varsity team and won a state championship as a sophomore. Her team went 61-12 during those years, while she was hitting .396 with four home runs and 59 RBIs.

When deciding on where to go to school, Carissa wanted to find a school with a great location in a friendly community and also a nursing program. She plans on trying to improve her time management in order to become a better student athlete. Carissa believes this will give her more free time and the chance to focus on her schoolwork.
