MOHAVE VALLEY — The River Valley High School football team secured a spot in the postseason with a win on Friday night against Chino Valley High School.
It was also senior night for River Valley, who honored Enemico Renteria, Jacob Boice, Vinnie Zavala, Hunter Sherman, Michael Saykally, Nathaniel Ruiz, Nysaiah Vargas, Caiden Walters, Aaron Smith and Miles Burshia.
Head coach Adam King said he could not be more thankful for this group.
"They embraced a new staff and new direction almost seamlessly and have set a standard in regards to respect and working through adversity that will remain with our program long after they've left us," King said. "We owe it to them to do everything we can this week to honor their buy-in to our program."
Jayden Plotkin got the scoring going on the first play from scrimmage, recording a 65-yard touchdown. Michael Saykally then scored an 11-yard touchdown on the third play, followed by a 64-yard score from Plotkin before Mickey Smith connected with Peyton Boice for River Valley's fourth touchdown of the game, increasing the lead to 29.
The route continued with Saykally scoring his second touchdown and Smith tossing a long pass to Gavin Rodriguez to make it 41-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Dust Devils went on to score two more touchdowns with a running clock for a senior night win.
"Senior night was great," Jacob Boice said. “That was a good hard team win, and I’m excited for the first round of the playoffs to see who we can upset.”
